Science, technology, engineering, math!! My students are first graders but they are want to learn it all!
My students are eager learners when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world. I believe this project will promote an interest in math and science, create critical thinkers and most of all enable the next generation of innovators.
The ipads and Bee Bots will provide them with opportunities to cooperate among each other, apply critical thinking and problem solving skills. The exciting new robots are designed for use by young children. They are colorful, easy-to-operate, and a perfect tool for teaching sequencing, estimation, problem-solving and have proven especially good at cutting through language and cultural barriers.
Bee-Bot enables students to use critical thinking skills when asked to program Bee-Bot to travel to a specific destination on the Card Mat. Students catch on quickly by using Command Cards to map out a path for Bee-Bot to follow to reach the destination. I look forward to using the Bee-Bot system in learning centers to improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills while we practice math, science and reading concepts.
Another facet that I plan to incorporate is by using QR codes. Students will use an iPad to scan a QR code and either listen to a word being, a problem read or watch a short video clip. They then program Bee-Bot to go to an image that matches what they see in the video. This use of Bee-Bots directly ties the programming in with the curriculum and engages the students by allowing for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning.
