This is my third year at our school. I taught 1st and 2nd grade before I became the School Counselor here. My role involves teaching lessons to each of our classes (K-6) once every two weeks, advocating for students/families and providing them with needed resources. I also work with students individually or in small groups on an as-needed basis. I am also the PBIS coordinator for my school. As a brand new counselor, I want to make ensure that PBIS at my school is effective, motivating, brings students together, and that our students are developing good citizenship habits through The ART Code (our school's code of conduct). We previously received funding from a grant that is not currently available for our PBIS program. This grant allowed staff to provide students with small prizes when they follow The ART Code. Students who follow the ART Code are recognized with ART Cards. For example, a student who picks up litter on our playground without being asked may be given an ART card, encouraging other students to do the same. PBIS is an integral part of our school community. It improves everyone’s experience on our campus, making it an enjoyable place to be for all. I hope to give students the opportunity to choose one small prize each time they receive five ART Cards. We will call that a “Fantastic Five.” Each time a student receives an ART Card, their teacher will put a mark on their Fantastic Five chart until it is filled. At that point, they will bring it to me for a prize, and have their Fantastic Five stapled to a bulletin board in our cafeteria. This will create a wall of fame, where students can see their accomplishments. The larger prizes included here will be given in drawings each quarter.
