I am working towards a more Socratic seminar seating arrangement for my class. This will assist my students with boundaries, language learning, and allow my students to be better listeners and speakers. As kindergarteners my students are still learning physical boundaries and how to obtain others person space. With the defined seating to a specific groove, it will allow my students the freedom to interact with there peers while still keeping strict boundaries for them to abide by. Also my class is comprised of predominantly English Language Learners, this new structure will help make sure that the students that are not as quick with speaking/translating are not being alienated, but are still incorporated in group activities and conversation. Lastly, my students are still learning how to speak and listen properly in group settings, this will make it more accessible for the students to share there ideas and listen to everyone at there table without yelling or getting out of their seats. Since we do many group actives such as with STEM work this new seating arrangement will help insure all students have an equal opportunity to participate.
