Sculpting Young Minds and Building Fine Motor Skills

Funded Oct 3, 2019

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity in donating to my project. My students have been enjoying using the allergy-friendly sculpting materials to squish, squeeze, and strengthen their fingers. Already I think I see a difference in how they are writing their names each morning! From the very first time I put out the Mad Matter Sensory Dough, it has become a classroom favorite. Recently, students have been using the dough to create the letters in their names, as shown in some of my pictures. They also enjoy rolling the dough to make worms, snakes, balls, and even pizza!

Later this year, students will use the modeling clay to expand their understanding of topics such as their five senses, homes, animal habitats, and transportation. I know my students will love being able to sculpt caves for a hibernating bear, or adding toy wheels to the modeling clay to create zooming cars and trains! They can also use the modeling clay to sculpt a skyscraper or a castle for a princess to live in. The imagination of a Pre-K student is limitless!

In a world where children spend so much of their time interacting with screens, it is really great to have an opportunity for students to build their Fine Motor Skills in an authentic and engaging way. The educational experience of my students has been made better by your generous contribution.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Lagermann
