  • Roadrunner Roulette Reward for Positive Behavior

    Funded Jul 27, 2024

When the students first saw the Roadrunner Roulette Wheel, they were filled with questions. When will I get to spin the wheel? What are the different prizes? Each time a class comes to the library, they are expected to show library etiquette. Before class starts I choose a secret student. If that student shows library etiquette, they get to spin the wheel for a prize at the end of class. They are so excited when it is their turn. I love seeing the smiles on their faces when they get a small token.

In the future I plan to change the wheel so the students can earn passes instead of tokens. For example, students will have the chance to earn a pass to use a stuffed reading buddy or have lunch with me.

Thank you for giving me the items to help reward students who show respectful, responsible behavior in the library.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Coffey

  • Sharing the Gift of Looming

    Funded Apr 2, 2024

When my students helped open and sort packages of yarn and looms, they were ecstatic. They begged me to start looming right away. Unfortunately, we had to wait a few weeks because we were in the middle of state testing.

Once the testing was finished, the students began their projects. Each student chose a cotton yarn and a scrubby yarn to make either a scrubby for the dishes or a loofah for showering. It was amazing to see the focus and attention they paid to creating the items for Mother's Day. After finishing their project, they wrote a poem for their moms and wrapped the gift. The students loved the project so much that they made additional items for the aides and other workers at our school. Some even had their parents buy more yarn and looms for use at home.

We will be completing an economics unit about goods and services, which ties into looming. Students will have an opportunity to loom a hat or a scarf.

Thank you for the gift of looming that allowed my students and future students to give a gift to a loved one.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Coffey

  • Toot Your Own Horn

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

The piccolo that was kindly donated to my classroom has had an immediate impact on student learning and achievement.

In a band classroom it is critical that students perform music on the best instruments possible. While it is unrealistic for students to all own professional instruments, this donation is a small step in the correct direction.

Having quality learning materials is well understood in other classrooms. Students in Art could not create with broken brushes and dry paint. Students in math could not learn with broken calculators and dilapidated rulers and compasses. However in the band room this is what we face all the time.

The students are certainly appreciative as am I. It allows these incredibly talented young adults to explore and express via a medium that they cannot access on their own.

Music is truly a unique educational vehicle and the donation of this piccolo ensures more students in my classroom will have the most effective and meaningful experience possible.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Andrew Fauber”

    With gratitude,

Having a piccolo will allow students another instrument to learn and add to their repertoire. The piccolo will be used in marching band as well as concert band. During marching band season, students play at football games, marching competitions, and three local parades. Concert bands students will be able to use the instrument to audition and participate in all county, regional, and state band. Having only one piccolo limits the number of students that can learn an instrument. A second piccolo will allow more students an opportunity to learn another instrument. Music has also been proven to increase test scores.
