Art Experiences in Classes, Clubs, and After School
Funded Nov 27, 2024I am deeply grateful for your generous donation to our school programs through DonorsChoose. Your contribution has made a significant impact on our students and allowed us to bring creative projects to life that celebrate culture and community.
With the new art supplies, we've been able to create a Lunar New Year calendar craft, Basquiat-inspired crowns for Black History Month, and tote bags supporting Black-owned businesses. The students were thrilled when they first saw the materials—it gave them the tools to express their creativity and connect to important cultural themes. They especially loved the hands-on learning and the chance to design items that were both artistic and meaningful.
Looking ahead, we'll use these supplies for projects like making friendship bracelets for Women's History Month and lanterns for Asian-American Pacific Islander Month. Additionally, your donation helped us form an Art Club that will design and create a mural for our school, which has been an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their talents.
Thank you again for your support. Your generosity has truly inspired and empowered our students, and we can't wait to continue these projects.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kelly
Art Projects in HS History Classes
Funded Nov 23, 2024On behalf of my students and myself, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your generous donation to our classroom project. Thanks to you, we have been able to provide our students with essential art supplies that have enriched our History class and deepened their understanding of Black history and culture in meaningful and creative ways.
We've already seen such positive changes in the classroom. One of the first projects we tackled was creating banners to represent different Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). With the new materials, our students were able to design vibrant, personalized banners that showcased the history and significance of these institutions. The pride they felt in the activity was palpable. For many, it was the first time they were able to visually connect to the rich legacy of HBCUs, and they were thrilled to see their hard work come to life in such a meaningful way. It gave them an opportunity to reflect on their own futures, sparked conversations about college and career goals, and helped build a sense of cultural pride.
Another exciting project that came from your donation was the creation of trifold boards for Black History Month. Students created presentation boards that highlighted an influential figure from Black history or a component of an Ancient African Kingdom, using the supplies you helped provide. Their passion and enthusiasm for this project was inspiring, and it led to a lot of great discussions and sharing among peers.
Looking ahead, the new art supplies are also a key element in our upcoming storybook project. Our students will create their own illustrated storybooks that will showcase diverse narratives inspired by Black history and culture. This project not only allows them to tap into their artistic skills but also encourages them to think critically about storytelling, representation, and the power of their own voices. The students are excited to bring their characters to life, and I know they will be proud to share their completed books with the class and even the broader school community.
As we continue these projects, we are looking forward to even more opportunities for creativity and learning. The art supplies you provided will help us make these activities richer and more impactful, and I am excited to see how the students will continue to grow and express themselves.”

Funded Sep 22, 2024I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous contribution to our project on DonorsChoose. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide essential personal hygiene products to our menstruating students, ensuring they have what they need to feel comfortable and confident every day.
This initiative has made an incredible impact, not only on their physical well-being but also on their mental health. Many of our students face challenges that affect their ability to focus and succeed in school, and something as simple as having access to hygiene products can help alleviate stress and embarrassment. Your donation has empowered these young people to feel more secure and supported, which is invaluable in helping them succeed academically and emotionally.
By meeting this basic need, you've given our students the chance to engage more fully in their education, without the worry of feeling different or left behind. The positive change we've seen in their self-esteem and classroom engagement has been truly inspiring, and it's all because of your kindness.
Thank you for making a real difference in their lives. Your support is a reminder of the power of community and the lasting impact we can have when we come together to lift others up.”

This classroom project was brought to life by An anonymous classroom supporter and 18 other donors.UAI Goes to Washington D.C.
Funded Dec 17, 2018The trip our nation's capitol was an astounding success! From the moment we stepped off the bus at the Tidal Basin memorials, the students were enthralled with the history of Washington D.C. and surprised themselves with how much they already knew about our nation's development. Not only did the students attentively listen to the tour guide and investigate each memorial and site we saw, but they continued to ask questions about what they were seeing, extending their understanding of United States history and making this awesome experience even more meaningful.
After speaking with students on the trip home, their two favorite parts of this experience were watching the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery and our time at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Students wished that they had more time to explore both of these sites, since they resonated deeply with their own experience as predominately young women of color in the United States and as relatives of service members.
On the trip home, one student commented, "I'm very grateful for the once in a lifetime experience I was given to travel to Washington D.C. and see and experience things I never have before. For everyone that donated for us, thank you so much. I am so grateful because so many other kids don't get this opportunity." Another student stated, "It changed my life in a way, so thank you." Learning didn't stop when the bus returned to Brooklyn, however, as students continued to discuss their experiences and use this information to increase their understanding of United States history in preparation for the Regents exam this June. Thank you again for your generous donations, you made a huge difference in the lives of many students!”
