Our students thrive from structure and routine. Sometimes the students become so energized and stimulated, they become overwhelmed and need to leave the class to another area of our school to find calm. It is my hope that with our new area provided with a fun with phonics carpet, big book center and bean bag chairs, instead of students leaving our class, going under their desks, or struggling with bouts of emotion, they will be able to find comfort in our own homeroom, by spending time in our new carpeted area. Our comfort learning zone will provide an opportunity for students to take time out and regroup in a safe secure area within our classroom. By donating to our project our students will be given the resources and the opportunity to choose whether to stay at their desk and use therapy items, such as a foot band, weighted blankets, or relaxation balls, to self soothe or to go to our new comfort learning zone, with a fun with phonics carpet, big book center and bean bag chairs, to refocus and correct problem behaviors. Providing behavior pocket charts and prize assortments will also serve our students with incentives to rethink behavior and motivate them to work toward academic and behavior goals. Giving my students the opportunity to regroup and refocus in class, will be giving them the opportunity to continue to thrive in our own classroom environment, where they will have what they need to meet their academic needs and continue their academic growth.
