As the Health Teacher for our school I want our students to have a safe and welcoming space adjoining our classroom. It would take on several purposes: 1. The ability for students to explore, create, and practice on their own or with others self -care. * This might be a moment when a student is experiencing stress. Needing a change in space, allowing for a break from the situation, to possibly using a mindfulness technique, (breathing, journaling, music, or reflection)) might just be the CHANGE needed. 2. Kids will be able to come together to create activities and share ideas, for bringing positive change to themselves, school community and possibly their families. Discovering how to advocate and use their voice to bring about meaningful impact is a lifelong skill I want ALL of my kids to take with them when they leave us. 3. The rug and chairs along with other items will create a more relaxed comfortable environment as opposed to the formality of sitting at our classroom desks. The rug with its coloring will brighten the space and students will want to sit on the floor with those chairs ...creating opportunities. Anything I can do to accommodate their needs is my number one priority!
