  • Whiteboard for Learning

    Funded Sep 19, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation to my "Whiteboard" project! My students were so surprised when they saw this new resource that I could use for the entire class and they could use during group work!

Our school is using "Fundations" as our Phonics program this year. At first I was daunted by the prospect of starting something new and working with new material. The whiteboard has had such a positive effect on my attitude toward this new program! I am able to post the letters and sound combinations on this board. I am also able to write on the board for the whole class to see. It is an amazing help!

I love that the kids can manipulate the word pieces for this program and directly on the white board and use the wipe-off markers. They are really enjoying this new resource!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bauer

  • Over the Moon for Applying Science Concepts to Real Life

    Funded May 25, 2021

My students were so excited when they saw all of the wonderful STEM materials they would have to work with this year. They have been experimenting with the pieces and attempting to build some things on their own, but also build new structures. They love to see how the pieces work together and I encourage them to trouble shoot when something is not working as expected.

Our resources are going to be used in even a broader aspect soon. We are going to allow all students to use the kits in a controlled atmosphere in our STEM lab. Our STEM coordinator is so excited to have new resources on loan from my classroom. This will give so many more kids the opportunity to experiment and expand their understanding of simple machines, hydroponics, and simulated electrical currents.

Thank you so much for this opportunity to expose my students to the STEM kits I was able to purchase through your donations. My students love to experiment and are thoroughly enjoying all of the materials they were not able to enjoy through last year because of COVID. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bauer

  • Diversified Cultural Books for All Students

    Funded Nov 13, 2020

I first want to say, thank you so much for the donation toward my "Diversified Cultural Books for All Students". The books have arrived and we are all enjoying them so much!

My students are learning that our nation has been formed through the collaborative effort of all types of people regardless of race or gender. I have been tying history lessons into my Reading lessons by identifying strong Americans, who come from various backgrounds and cultures, that have had an important influence on our nation. The students also enjoy hearing about ordinary individuals, such as those in the story "How Many Days to America?" who have endured great hardships just to make it to America. The children are beginning to realize that even though we come from a small town and have very little exposure to those of other races, we can learn about others through books such as those you have provided by your donations to my project.

Thank you again for your donation! Your money is being put to good use!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bauer

  • Safety for School Return

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you so much for donating to my "Safety for School Return" project! I am sure that many parents were anxious about the prospect of their child coming back to school this year. The impact of COVID on schools and businesses has been mind boggling.

Because of your donations, I was able to provide each student with a face shield and sanitizing wipes. Many students did bring a mask from home, but I am so thankful to have the face shields as an option for when we are working together in class. I can see students' smiling faces and hear their responses much better with the shields.

I know that there are probably thousands of projects that you could have donated your money to at the beginning of school this year. Please know that your donation has had a huge positive impact on my students who tend to come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Thank you again for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bauer

  • Mega Math Centers

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Your donations to my Mega Math Centers Project has allowed me to bring my plan of incorporating more math centers into my students' day to fruition! My students love the hands-on time they are now getting with manipulatives as we move along in the Math curriculum. We just completed a lesson on arrays in multiplication and each of the students could form their own array so that they could "see" what I was talking about.

I have been able to incorporate more centers into my math instruction time and both my students and I are loving this. The time spent in math goes so quickly and is very fruitful. Thank you again for your donation to my project!”

  • STEM Investigations for Awesome Kids!

    Funded Mar 7, 2019

My students were so excited when the STEM resources that I ordered through DonorsChoose arrived! I introduced each of the kits to the class and then allowed them to experiment. They were able to use some of the materials without even reading the directions, but some of the kits were more challenging and students needed to use their reading skills to figure out how to proceed.

It was so fun to watch their expressions as they discovered new ways to use the materials. They really loved the snap circuits and were able to come up with new ways to attach them in order to make an object light up, spin, or move. Finally, Botley, which is a small robot that incorporates coding to make it move, was one of the class favorites. Finding ways to move the robot to knock over a tower or follow a path was exciting for the students.

For these many reasons, I would like to thank you for donating to my DonorsChoose project. These resources will be valuable to me and my students for many years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bauer

These items will introduce my 3rd-grade students to 21st century learning in the form of easy access kits that include coding and basic circuitry activities. Often times Science and Social Studies are secondary subjects in the elementary classroom which end up being cut if a special program is occurring during the school day. We have little time to allow students to investigate and explore those very activities which promote problem-solving and independent thinking. My goal through this project is to make supplies available throughout the day to allow, not only early finishers, but all students to get a chance to discover how amazing the world around them is and how it really works. We cover a basic circuitry unit in Science and these hands-on kits would allow them time to manipulate the actual circuits and coding gadgets. From this experience, the students will problem solve as they explore so that the learning is done through actual "doing" instead of videos or textbooks. I want to promote this 21st-century learning mindset in all subjects, especially those that sometimes seem to get pushed to the back burner.
