Flexible seating is important in students developing the best location for them to do independent work. When my students are given the opportunity daily to utilize flexible seating during independent work and stations, they are less disruptive, stay on task, and produce higher level work. Currently my students are limited on their flexible seating options and they need more opportunities to have a comfortable learning environment. Students use flexible seating in the classroom currently by moving to a spot in the room they would like to work, whether it between a different desk, table, floor, hall, etc. My students are making positive decisions and are more engaged in their learning since I have been giving them flexible seating options. They have a higher level of work completion and are putting forth more effort in completing assignments.
My inner city school students deserve the opportunity to have comfortable learning options available for flexible seating. The carpet, bean bag chairs, and balance ball will permit students to have a variety of seating options for independent and station work. This will give them freedom to get their wiggles out, get comfortable, and move about as needed to complete academic work.
Many of my students have had limited opportunities to flexible seating until I implemented in my classroom. I know the flexible seating options have impacted my students positively. Their behavior and time on task has increased. With these added flexible seating options, I know we will see continued improvement within the classroom and on academic assignments. Let's give these students a fair chance!
