Identity Unit for 9th Grade Students
Funded Jan 2, 2023X is a novel that addresses many issues students find relevant: social justice, racism, and overcoming adversity. Those issues we have addressed throughout the year with an overarching question: how can argument and rhetoric be agents for social change? What better way of exploring that question then through the dramatic retelling of Malcolm X's story?
In addition to the critical thinking skills required to grapple with the novel's ideas, the novel also requires building reading comprehension skills. I also use the novel as a basis for research writing as students explore other key figures from the civil rights era.
Thank you again for your donation. The impact has been amazing and will last well beyond this school year for my students!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Wierzbicki
