  • UnWholly Books Not Jeans

    Funded Jan 24, 2020

Thank you so much for the quick out pour of support you guys have shown for my students and classroom. These books will be put to amazing use and students are already excited to finish the first book and move on to this one.

I am amazed how quickly this got fulfilled donation wise. Less than a week and this submission was full. I cannot begin to put into words how amazing that makes me feel knowing I have family members willing to help me get my students what they need. Yes, I could have made it work without the books, but it makes it so much easier and truly that is all thanks to you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Nelson

  • Unwind and Chill

    Funded Oct 23, 2019

The teaching lessons I can know do with having this book are endless. The main thing I have the kids focus on is the choices the main characters make. At the end of the book, I ask them if they would make the same choices if they were in our main characters shoes.

Reading in my classroom looks different than the traditional sense. We read twice a week silently for 30 minutes. It can be almost anything school appropriate and not just long chapter books. Sometimes comics and manga's are long and difficult to read.

Many of my students from last year really were enthralled with the book. whenever we had to stop they always wanted to keep going. The biggest win for the book is all different types of kids like it. It crosses all racial and gender lines and I think that is a testament to how much this book grabs kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Nelson

I need these books because I think my students will enjoy the style of writing in the story and also relate to the characters in so many interesting ways. They will be reading the book, Unwind, to become better readers and dive deeper into how to think critically of a story. Also, I want my students to experience a whole new world that will have them asking a lot of moral questions about their society. That is something that in this book really hits them head on because the conflict is about characters that are in their age range and the law, if it was actually in effect, would impact them directly.
