Flexible seating will allow my very active students the freedom and ability to move while keeping them engaged. Many of my students need to move in order to stay claim and focused. Studies show students who are comfortable are more attentive and perform better in school. If my project is funded the flexible seats would be use in small group rotations in both math and literacy/reading rotations. In these rotations I see every single one of my students twice a day. Presently, in my classroom I do have a little variety of flexible seating options, but in our whole group area we have standard pull-out chairs, in our writing center students have floor cushions to sit on and at my assistance's table students have create chairs to sit on. However, at my table I have standard pull-out chairs and I am constantly redirecting my students trying to keep their attention. I feel a positive "fun" learning environment does have a direct impact on a student's achievement and flexible seating can put that "fun" element in learning. With that being said, I feel having a variety of low, medium and high seating for my kids will help to improve their academic scores as well as meet their physical need to move! Flexible seating will allow my students the freedom to move, stay engaged and learn all at the same time in a FUN way!!! The pocket chart would also be a great addition to our classroom to promote understanding of story elements such as beginning, middle and end, main character, problem and solution etc. The pocket chart would be used in whole group, during teacher modeling and also it could be set up in a center for students to use to retell stories to their friends!
