Our school has been using positive behavioral approaches for many years. Students are taught and encouraged to use the school motto of R2S—responsible, respectful, and safe. On Friday afternoons, we would have enrichment time. These were times when kids could interact with other kids in their classroom, grade level, and across grade levels. Kids were able to socialize with a variety of kids doing such activities as LEGOs, STEM activities, walks, and many others. This year we will not be able to have any cross-level groups due to COVID. Also, students will not be able to work cooperatively on hands-on activities. I would like to provide hands-on activities that students can complete independently. These hands-on science kits connect to our curriculum and are engaging. Students not only learn science concepts but also learn perseverance and develop creativity. Students will need to plan, test, and reevaluate to accomplish the task. Students will be able to use an activity one week, discuss it with classmates, and try another activity the next week. Students will be exposed to terms and content before beginning the unit.
