Neil Gaiman once said, "The simplest way to make sure that we raise literate children is to show them that reading is a pleasurable activity. And that means finding books that they enjoy, giving them access to those books, and letting them read them." My students absolutely love reading! They are from low-income neighborhoods and don’t always have access to books at home. My classroom is sometimes the only place they get to read and book shop. Unfortunately, many of the books in our library are outdated. For children with Autism, it is crucial to have material that engages them. This year, I found the best way to keep my students captivated was through book series. Each time they finished a book, they asked me for more! I was constantly running to the public library to replenish their thirst for reading. An updated and engaging library with various book series is just what my kids need to stay hooked on books!
