  • Realtime Feedback to Create Realtime Results

    Funded Apr 26, 2024

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation that enabled us to purchase an iPad and a stylus for our English class. Your support has made a significant impact on our classroom experience, and I wanted to share how these tools have transformed our learning environment.

The iPad and stylus have been instrumental in enhancing the way I provide feedback to students. With real-time feedback capabilities, I can now respond more promptly to student work, which has greatly improved their learning process and engagement. The immediate insights help students understand their progress and areas for improvement on the spot, making the learning experience more interactive and effective.

In addition, the integration of AI technology has revolutionized how we handle lectures and class notes. I can now record our sessions and generate comprehensive notes, which are especially beneficial for students who are absent or need to revisit the material. This has ensured that every student has access to the same high-quality resources, regardless of their attendance.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gabe

  • Curl Up with a Book in My Own Special Way

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

This was powerful because allowing students to choose high-quality, high-interest books in class and fostering a culture of independent reading for joy and personal growth has had a profound impact on their academic and personal development.

Firstly, when students have the autonomy to select books that resonate with their interests and preferences, they are more likely to engage deeply with the material. This intrinsic motivation leads to increased comprehension, retention, and critical thinking skills. Rather than viewing reading as a chore or an obligation, my students perceive it as a pleasurable activity, fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Furthermore, exposing them to a diverse range of books introduces them to new perspectives, cultures, and ideas. As they explore different genres and authors, they develop empathy, cultural awareness, and a broader understanding of the world around them. This exposure encourages tolerance, open-mindedness, and appreciation for diversity.

One of the most significant impacts of students independently reading for joy is the emergence of vibrant book-centered conversations within the classroom. When my students discover books they love, they naturally want to share their excitement with their peers. These conversations not only enhance communication and interpersonal skills but also deepen comprehension as they analyze characters, themes, and literary techniques.

Moreover, introducing them to new authors through independent reading exposes them to a wealth of literary voices they may not have encountered otherwise. This exposure not only enriches their reading experiences but also expands their horizons, broadening their understanding of different writing styles and storytelling techniques.

Overall, providing opportunities for students to choose high-quality, high-interest books cultivated a vibrant literary community within the classroom. These experiences have paved the way for a solid foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth.”

  • Reading is FUNdamental

    Funded Oct 9, 2019

The books that have been donated have increased reading stamina and vocabulary drastically among many of the lower level students in my classroom, who admitted that they were unsatisfied with their readings skills due to a lack of interst or an insecurity developed over their time as a learner. Many students have become more interested in topics they connected with through stories - racism, LGBT rights, and black, urban, youth dynamics.

In our classroom, we begin each day with thirty minutes of sustained silent reading. This routine allows students to start their day off with their own personal choice. When scholars choose high interest, high rigor books there is a direct correlation to reading growth. Not only are there academic benefits but I must say there is a calming effect that our reading time has on the atmosphere of our stuctured class time.

With this donation, there has been an uptick in the amount of boys who are enthusiastic about reading time and their book options. I have also been thanked by many of our students who are a part of the LBGTQ community. It is important to read books that represent us in every way. This has been the best donations yet. I thank you and encourage you to keep giving.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gabe

  • I See Myself In the World of Literature!

    Funded Jul 21, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books to our classroom. It has enhanced the reading experience for a countless amount of children. The books you have purchased for us has helped scholars appreciate not only the joy reading brings but has introduced them to many author's they had never known before such as: Kwame Alexander, Sharon Flake, and Ernest Gains. The students were excited to read about people who look and sound like them. We may not think of it often but it reallys says you matter when the fictional world includes you and puts you as the focal point of the story.

Because of you, we read for 30 minutes of sustained silent reading daily, at the beginning of every class. This used to be an arduous task, due to the lack of interest in the limited books we had. However, there is a renewed excitment around reading time and students are eager to get to clas and read. How wonderful is that! Using this dedicated time to read has helped us improve reading scores and testing stamina.

I have found that the largest group who are especially enjoying the books are the boys. It is hard to get boys to read about things other than sports, but the high interest books we have now has opened their eyes to a whole new world. Thank you for this amazing gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Gabe

Getting these materials will grow a classroom library for kids who love learning. They are gobbling up the books we have and are clamoring for more. I'd like to reward their efforts with a really cool reading nook and a new set of books to choose from. These kids are so excited about reading and spend 30 minutes reading and sharing about the books they are reading. Literacy is so important and is the bridge that strengthens all their learning across curriculum. Seeing the way my students light up in our literary circles is mind blowing and world changing. Help me brighten their day and feed their imaginations.
