By having alternative seating in the classroom students are free to make a choice of which seating arrangement is best for their learning. By giving them a choice I am helping them begin to learn how to make appropriate choices to make them more successful in the classroom. This also helps reduce the number of behavior problems that can happen in the classroom. By having alternative seating students have their own space to spread out and have room to work. Having alternative seating also helps with engagement. By having higher engagement students will be more successful. All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while they are learning. Our hexagon-shaped table that is low to the floor will be used with the floor cushions or so the students can kneel at the table if they'd rather. The rectangular table will provide another option for students who like to stand or students who want to sit on a stool to learn. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. I want them to feel comfortable and at home in our classroom. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
