When my gifted students come through the classroom door, I strive to challenge, inspire, and motivate them to take on advanced tasks. For a gifted student who finds that reading or math comes easy, bringing in a new skill, such as origami is important for their talent development. Origami offers a unique way for them to challenge themselves and discover hidden potential. They get to push themselves to do something totally new and advance their thinking skills through interest-based challenges. Learning the techniques of origami helps develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and mental concentration. The use of the hands also directly stimulates areas of the brain. We not only will learn how to fold some traditional shapes, but also how to create impressive 3-dimensional figures. Additionally, students will have fun as we explore and discuss the attributes of mathematical shapes used in our origami creations!
