All first graders love to build! There aren't always enough materials for multiple children to build something together, and a teacher's classroom budget does not lend itself to expensive STEM materials. The Fort Builder sets from Lakeshore will provide my students with unlimited play, engineering, and learning opportunities. This will not only enhance their creativity, but it will also provide them with opportunities to communicate and problem solve with each other. Funding for this project will allow my students to engineer structures that they wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to build. The students will learn to communicate through the designing, planning, and building process. They will work together toward a common goal--not just creating a structure, but strengthening our classroom community.
