  • Modeling DNA

    Funded Jul 26, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation. This model is an excellent tool to explain DNA structure and processes of transcription and translation. Many students will benefit from visualizing the double helix, pairing the bases as well as constructing their own DNA sequence. This model will make learning fun!

Thank you again and be safe.”

  • White Board to the Rescue!

    Funded Jul 18, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations. Even though the upcoming school year will be challenging, this white board and markers will help me teach Living Environment concepts to the full extent. I will use it to teach remotely (if needed) and in the classroom.

My very deepest thanks! Stay safe!”

  • Science Research: Computer to the Rescue!

    Funded Sep 2, 2015

Thank you for your generous gift. The Apple computer that you have funded will be used to show power point presentations, videos and will help my students to learn how to write research papers.

Most of my students do not have computers at home, so your donation will open them a door to a new world of technology!

Thank you so much! I cannot wait to start the new school year with a new Apple computer and share great news with my colleagues in school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zak

  • Exploring Science With Technology!

    Funded Feb 26, 2014

My students were very excited to use the IPAD. The "Regents Booster" App was great for the week before the living environment regents exam. Students used diagrams, graphs, practice regents questions to prepare for the test.

We also used "Barron's Regents Exams and Answers" app which was very useful to practice the old regents exams.

These apps really increased my students' interest in Living Environment and relieved a lot of pressure and anxiety of taking the regents exam. Most of my students stayed on task and impatiently waited for their turn to use the IPAD.

Next year I will incorporate more apps into my lessons to make them more engaging for my students.”

  • Virtual Biology: From Cells to Body Systems!

    Funded Jul 15, 2012

I would like to thank you very much for your donation. For the past two weeks, we've been using the microscope during class and lab time. We've had a blast! The microscope's potential and applications are endless. I was able to show students different types of cells and the different parts within the cells. Using the microscope in conjunction with the whiteboard is very convenient and simple. The class is better able to follow instructions and concentrate on specific sections of the slide. Students need less individual assistance and class time is saved.

During the last lab, we were learning about the different phases of mitosis. The students were excited to use the microscope and see real changes within the cell. They were able to make connections between the slides and the textbook pictures.

I am adjusting my lesson plans to incorporate more of what this microscope has to offer and I'm hoping more and more students will discover the wonders of biology. Thank you once more for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zak

  • What's the Matter? Discover the Four States of Matter

    Funded Oct 29, 2010

Your help is greatly appreciated. From now on my lessons are a lot of fun for the kids. I am using the netbook to show slides, power point presentations, videos and animations.

My chemistry and earth science students are watching virtual labs; complete worksheets on Promethean board and make and watch their own presentations.

You donated more than money. Due to your contributions a lot of kids will become excited about science and will see it as their carrier choice.

Thank you again and be happy and healthy.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Zak

I teach science in High School in metropolitan NY. My students are very diverse. I teach special education, ESL and gifted and talented kids. Some of them just came to this country and some, even though born here, are still struggling with their reading and writing skills. I strongly believe that all of them have the potential to do very well in science and other subjects. They just need additional resources: colorful presentations, pictures, animations, videos of science in action and relate it to their daily lives.
