Safe Space = Success!
Funded Nov 28, 2018I would like to thank each and every one of you that donated to the wonderful students of Chesterfield Academy. Each assistive tool has greatly contributed to the students managing their emotions and behaviors and learning new skills to improve communication, safe expression of feelings, care and concern for others and themselves, problem solving, active listening, assertiveness, conflict resolution and impulse control. The students especially enjoy the bean bags and the speaker; they eagerly ask on a daily basis to visit the Safe Space to practice guided meditation using these items. They express that the practice relaxes them and eases anxiety and frustration while readying them to apply appropriate focus to instruction.
Having access to coping tools has empowered the students of Chesterfield Academy to actively make positive choices and independently choose assistive items to help them properly self-regulate. The students regularly ask for tools such as the noise canceling head phones, stress balls, and fidget items. When asked how the tools support them and their behavior, they are very knowledgeable of how the items affect focus, emotional regulation, and impulse control.
Thank you all again for your kind donation. The students were beyond elated when the items arrived, they immediately began asking to visit the Safe Space to use the items. We at Chesterfield Academy are beyond grateful that we have a safe space equipped with strategic tools to practice effective coping skills outside of the classroom setting to elude behaviors that are harmful to themselves and others. Thank you all again!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Spencer
