My students come from an urban community in California. 75% receive free/reduced lunch. We lack materials and supplies because of major budget cuts in the elementary public schools. This has made it difficult and has forced me to use my creativity in how I teach my subjects. I have a diverse group of students this year. 85% of my students are Hispanic and 15% are Asian students. I have a mixture of both high advanced students to far below performing students. They are all in 1st graders and are eager to make connections to anything they observe or read about, either on the news, or in books.
