Play therapy gives our elementary school students the opportunity to express themselves creatively while also providing an outlet for them to articulate emotions they would otherwise not be able to. In our counseling office, we conduct small groups designed to help students build social skills and empathy; using games in these sessions encourages teamwork and community building. Our school primarily serves immigrant families from low socioeconomic backgrounds and many of our students are English Language Learners. Games often transcend language barriers and encourage our students to have fun and learn how to relate to one another.
