These books will be an integral part of our classroom library, serving 5 classes and roughly 160 students in all, but hundreds more thereafter for years to come. My students will use our classroom library on a weekly basis and will chose their own book to read based purely on personal interest. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind: thinking of both their current levels of Spanish reading proficiency and also their diverse personal interests as young people. Through regular reading time in the classroom, student will begin to feel the joy of understanding Spanish through accessible narrative text. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading and stronger in Spanish. As scholar and language teacher, Christine Nuttall, says, “The best way to improve your knowledge of a foreign language is to go and live among its speakers - the next best way is read extensively in it.” Ultimately, the books will enhance my students' reading habits, language learning experience, and feelings of success in Spanish.
