We are very thankful for giving us a Microsoft Surface Go! The product is used extensively by my students who do research on discovering metal oxide semiconductors that can split water into hydrogen and oxygen using sunlight. At the moment, there is no known stable catalyst that can effectively and efficiently do this. There are about 20 earth-abundant metals that are very promising. Mixing them in different ratios results in millions of possible combinations! With technology, students are able to do data analysis of graphs/results that otherwise would take weeks in just a few days.
It is definitely a very powerful tool that can be used not just for data analysis but for writing lab reports as well.
Everyone loves it and can't wait to use it! Thanks again!”
With gratitude,
Mr. V

Students are engaged in a STEM project where they are looking for an efficient and effective metal catalyst that can photo electrolyze water. A laptop would be an excellent tool for their research.
Even with just 20 earth abundant metals to start, the combinations of these metals can run in the millions! With the use of a laptop, students can easily use it to record their data, plot and analyze results, and share their results with the scientific community. And once this metal catalyst is found, it can be utilized in the production of hydrogen gas -- which could eventually free us from our dependence on fossil fuels.
Los Angeles with its year-round photochemical smog needs to cut its reliance on fossil fuels. My students are doing the research so we can find the catalyst that can easily photo electrolyze water (and we have plenty of saltwater) with just the aid of sunlight (and we too have plenty of that!). We may be able to solve our energy problem and cut out smog. Ambitious? Yes, but everything always has to start because someone dared.
