I want to empower my students by allowing them to make a choice of the seating arrangement that best supports their learning in the classroom. Giving students options allows them to have focus and have more control over their own learning. Fiidget bands and wiggle chairs often provide that sensory stimulation they need; whereas, stability balls allow students to remain on task and engaged during whole-group and independent activities. Other students with more behavioral needs may even require visual timers to support transitions during academic and non-academic activities. This project will support a learning environment for students’ diverse needs. As a RSP teacher, I not only want to empower students with identified disabilities at my school, but also those unidentified. I am always trying to find ways to support student learning. This project will allow students to have control over learning thus this projects goals are to 1) support student learning, 2) create a learning and relaxing classroom environment, and 3) allow students to meet criteria for their IEP goals.
