I am a first year teacher and I’m trying to build my classroom around student choice, down to where they sit. This project will provide four comfortable floor seats and a lowered table for them to work on. Alternative seating is a highly successful way for students to release stored energy, learn responsible decision making, and focusing on their individual tasks. Some of my students struggle with staying focused on themselves, giving an alternative way to release energy will help them stay focused on their own tasks. Introspection is a difficult task for second graders but releasing some of their pent up energy will help.
