  • Stimulate Your Mind During Gym Class!

    Funded Sep 28, 2021

This year students have had to deal with a lot with Covid, quarantining, and getting injured. With having 550 students in the school you can assume that at least some point during the year we have students who get injured during class or outside of school. Most of the time they would just sit on the outside and watch the other students playing. Once the Legos arrived and I brought them out, they were so excited. They said that this helped them out from not being so down with missing gym class. The Lego sets come with cards to help students build certain items and some students just start getting and idea in their head and just start building. Some students have been very creative.

Going forward I hope having the Legos will continue to help students to become creative and I am hoping that this will also cut back on some behavior issues that come up with students sitting out of gym.

Thank you again for helping out with this project. The students who have created with the Legos have been very thankful.”

    With gratitude,

    Coach Mann

  • Getting Outdoors

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

With the portable speaker we are able to take this outdoors and be able to talk to all the students without yelling out at the top of our lungs. This allows the students to hear all the directions and not have to come up to us and keep asking what we are doing.

The students are loving the idea that they are getting to listen to music while they are playing their different activities in class. Having the microphone connected to the speaker allows us to be loud. This allows our students to fully hear us and know what their expectations are

Our Special Ed students have really enjoyed listening to music during the gym time. Instead of playing some of the students are standing near the speaker and dancing. They have just having a great time.”

    With gratitude,

    Coach Mann

  • Get Moving!

    Funded Apr 22, 2021

When the school year first started off we had to make sure the students were socially distanced and this made it hard for students to hear the little TV that we found within the school. Having the sound system it allowed the students from all over the gym to easily hear the activity we were doing.

Since the new sound system arrived we have been watching Just Dance videos and learning all sorts of new dance moves. The younger students have really enjoyed watching videos from GONoodle.com and dancing with those characters. The older students have really enjoyed watching "This and That" workout videos. It has really motivated students to get moving during our gym class.

Our Special Ed students have really enjoyed watching dance performances from around the world. These students get really excited to see how the performers dress and they like to pick out what similarities and differences they see in the different genres of dance. Once again I would like to thank everyone for their generous donation.”

Due to strict Covid-19 restrictions it has been very difficult to provide activities for my students during gym class. My students love to dance and move and we are currently not allowed to do many of the games and activities that we could before March 2020. With the current situation, they are stuck in classroom assigned seats and not able to move around. Students are social distanced and isolated to small areas in order to keep them safe. I am requesting a 70" TV that can be used to stream videos and other movement activities! Providing students the time to get up, be loud and move around is invaluable. More importantly now than ever, student mental health is also at stake. Providing teachers a much-needed break also helps to keep teacher energy high and their stress levels lower. By having a TV, I would be able to bring up videos of professional athletes/musicians/etc. doing workouts that would motivate and excite the students. The gym is a large room and we have anywhere from 35 to 80 kids depending on the class and how many are quarantined. We have two gym coaches so we are often able to split the classes in half with half going outside and half in the gym. When the weather turns cold, it will be more difficult to take half outside. We need a large TV in order to spread the kids out at least six feet apart and everyone still be able to view the TV. Currently, we have areas marked on the gym floor and are able to have kids at least ten feet apart. We need this project fulfilled as soon as possible in order to implement gym classes effectively and excitedly for the rest of our school year.
