Help Make Girls Feel Comfortable as they Enter Puberty!
Funded Feb 24, 2024As part of our identity unit in our upper grade classrooms, our school has always worked hard to provide students with self care and hygiene kits. Through the unit, students are introduced to different aspects of their identity, including the changes that can occur with puberty.
In the past we have provided students with different items such as deodorant, soap, tampons, pads etc. This year, teacher discussed the ways in which period underwear could be a very supportive part of the kits for our girls.
Period underwear give girls a certain level of comfort as well as ease during the transition that could sometimes be difficult and scary. Unfortunately, we were unable to find school community resources that could supply us with them.
That's when we decided to try Donors Choose! We are so grateful, because of you, that we will be able to provide period underwear as part of this unit and the kits that our developing girls will receive. Your generousity is appreciated and we want you to know you m,ade a difference for our students!”
With gratitude,

Funded Oct 24, 2010I want to begin by thanking you for you generosity and your support. It is an amazing feeling to have strangers helping strangers. We have been using the camera in our classroom and it has brought our writing to life and our Kindergarten experiences to life.
Much of our writing in Kindergarten includes writing about our lives. It is often very difficult for my students to think of things to write about, remember things that happened and how they happened or even just remember the words for their stories. Before, many of their stories were clearly fabricated or, I needed to consistently remind them what they are writing about or what happened next.
The flip camera has given us the opportunity to take pictures and videos of many the important and exciting things that happen in our classroom. Those pictures and videos then give the students things to write about. I also am able to record children telling their stories and then they can use the video to prompt their writing.
We have also recorded our sound drill, read alouds and other interactive lessons that the students can then choose to watch on the computer during center time.
I can not thank you enough for your donations! Neither can my students! ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Bille
