Funded Nov 29, 2022After covid, schools have noticed a decline in the student's math abilities. As teachers, we often have to supplement for students to have more positive math experiences. Although my students were struggling with area and perimeter in the classroom, their favorite work in this project was designing their own bakery using area and perimeter. The students were able to see how big they wanted each section of their bakery to be. They then documented the area and perimeter of each section laying it out on the grid paper. By physically drawing it out, they were able to successfully answer questions about their bakery more accurately than before.
Another very helpful project was working with fractions and a fraction number line. The students worked so much with with fractions that then were able to successfully compare fractions to find equivalent fractions.”
