  • Laptops for Success!

    Thank you so much for all that you have given. No amount has gone unrecognized. Our students have been extremely grateful for the tenchological addition to their classroom. We will continue to ask for more Donor's Choose donations as we aim to fulfill our goal of a classroom set. The first eight laptops that our generous donors have supported us in, is a giant step in the right direction.

    Our students have so far conducted research on the U.S Constitution, accessing various materials that have presented them with multiple modalities to fully understand a highly technical document. they have been able to access our online program ThinkCERCA to conduct readings, complete quizzes, use online planning pages and begin their essay writing. Many students are forced to type on cellphones at home and have already told us about how helpful having a laptop has been for them.

    We cannot wait to continue on our journey to a fully accessible 21st Century classroom. Keep your eyes open for our next Donor's Choose to add to our class set. With 25% of our students set with laptops, we will not stop until we reach 100%. Please share our story with your friends and family so that CSS students can reach their maximum potential!

These Lenovo Chromebooks are not a one and done deal. This classroom set will support students at our school for years to come. It is not an investment in Chromebooks, it is an investment in the future of the students of Harlem. Our students are at a constant disadvantage without access to computers on a daily basis. The students share stories of friends at schools who can access a computer as needed. We must request laptop usage a week in advance, and when we do receive them it often means that we are taking them from other classes that need to use the technology as well. This weekly battle over resources is one that students should not have to face in 2018. As a Special Education teacher in a co-taught setting, I know that my students will thrive with everyday access to targeted technology. Using online programs such as Kurzweil and ThinkCERCA are great resources for students to support their learning. These resources provide students alternative methods to access materials that would otherwise be one or two grade levels above their current ability. Your donation will bring exciting and essential technological upgrades to our 7th graders.
