Put a Classic Novel in My Students' Hands!
Funded May 14, 2024Thank you for allowing my students to the opportunity to read a classic novel. As you know, my school was given the opportunity to add an additional 20 days to our calendar. We used the time to try to close gaps in the students' literacy skills.
Using a classic novel, like Charlotte's Web, is a great way to have students read an enjoyable book and increase comprehension and vocabulary. During the reading, I was able to join students, and read along. However, the most exciting moment was when the students stopped my in the hallway to tell me they learned a new word "Hullabaloo". Their excited was palpable and your generosity helped us create this opportunity!”

Funded May 10, 2024As you know, my school was selected to add an additional 20 days to our calendar. During the first 20 days, we needed to create a curriculum rich with opportunities to help our students close gaps in learning. As the reading specialist at my school, I focus on literacy opportunities for our students.
My goal was to have the Kindergarten through Second grade students interact with 20 new books during the first 20 days. I selected 20 picture books which would allow for rich discussion and exciting activities each day.
During the 20 days, teachers read one new book each day. The students got to hear their teacher reading and do activities to increase literacy skills. It was such a valuable opportunity for our students. Your generosity allowed for these moments and the possibilty of growth for all of my students.”

Funded Oct 20, 2022We have just wrapped up our schoolwide reading of The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Over the past three weeks, the students and teacher have read the book in class and participated in answering trivia questions daily. I made YouTube videos to support the students who need to be read to, or preferred to read along. All students had an opportunity to participate.
The supplies we requested were used to provide incentive to students for reading the book. Each day, our principal would announce a trivia question during morning announcements. The students would submit their answers. Throughout the morning, I would check their answers and allow them to choose a treat from the prize basket. The students were so eager to read and respond to the question of the day.
Now that we have completed reading the book, the students are building their own tin can robots. Each student in 2-5 grade has the opportunity to practice engineering and technology strategies. This experience has been made possible because of your generosity. Thank you so much for allowing my students to expand their views of science and technology.”

Funded Feb 3, 2022Thank you so much for your support in creating reading magic for my students. Our entire school read the book The Carver Chronicles: Dog Days by Karen English. Thanks to your generosity, the students were able to earn prizes for participation in the nightly readings. Each day during morning announcements, our principal announced a trivia question, which the students had an opportunity to answer. With correct answers, the students earned prizes. Additionally, there was a dog named Carlotta in the book. Each day, she "hid" in different locations around the school. The students who found her got a special prize each day. Your generous donations enable me to create excitement around reading! My students and I are grateful for your willingness to help!”

Field Day Fun For All
Funded May 10, 2019Yesterday, we held our Field Day! The students were delighted with the materials that we received from this project! It is so important to provide them with a fun, safe learning environment.
In the environment my students live, it is not always safe to play outside. Outside play is something we take for granted. During our field day, children spent the day playing and being children. They were excited to earn prizes and just have some fun.
I appreciate the support you have given my students. Learning goes beyond gaining knowledge from a book. I am trying to teach them how to be productive adults. Thank you for helping my efforts!”

Funded Nov 12, 2018I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your kind donation to our project. Many of my students do not have access to books at home. Our free library gives all students an opportunity to take home new books as needed.
Many of my students only visit a library once a week while at school. They rarely have the opportunity to select books based on their interests which they can keep. Our free library offers them that valuable opportunity to select books they want to read, and treasure it forever.
Our students have had such a positive response to our new library! Again, thank you for assisting us to build lifelong readers!”
With gratitude,
Ms. McCann
