Teaching Essential Standards Through Music
Funded Feb 1, 2021We are so excited to be back in the classroom as of this week. The children are overjoyed to have musical instruments to look forward to playing weekly.
These ukuleles give our students one more thing to be excited about when they arrive in class. We hope to continue to not only learn how to play them, but also create songs that help us remember Science, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, Social Emotional Learning, etc...
Thank you for supporting our efforts to help foster creativity and help our children love learning. You have helped shape our future leaders.”

This classroom project was brought to life by San Diego Gas & Electric and 6 other donors.Art to Support Perseverance and Social Emotional Learning
Funded Jan 27, 2021Since you helped to fund our class project, I have already begun to distribute many of the items. We are currently still in a distance learning format, so our students were able to pick up the packets from the office to begin their first few projects. I strongly believe if students have choice during the day and the chance to be creative, they are happier and learn more.
The following is a description of what we are trying to accomplish (I will post pictures as items get turned in): 1. Stick Puppet project-students have supplies to make a stick puppet that has a variety of skin shades and hair color options, they are given choice as to which additional accessories to add to make it personalized. Students even have skin colored crayons to make them as realistic as they can. Their puppet might look like them, a friend, a family member, or a make-believe character.
2. Stick Puppet Story Book-Students will create a book that goes along with their puppet. It has detailed instructions about what to put in the book and even contains a section for "About the Author." 3. Multi-Colored Hand Wreaths- In celebration of our multiple backgrounds we are making hand wreaths from our special skin colored paper to represent our friends in class. We will do this after reading Skin Like Mine. 4. And finally, our 4th project (but certainly not our last) Valentine's Day Cards-Students will make cards for family members to show their love and respect.
Thanks you for your generous support.”

Collaborative Learning Corner
Funded Feb 21, 2019My students collaborate throughout the day. During writing they help create, revise, and edit together. At Math time they use iPads and whiteboards to analyze problems of various types, during reading they buddy up to work on fluency, accuracy, and comprehension.
Now because of your generosity, they choose to work together even more. Their favorite place to sit is now in our collaborative peace corner. It is soft, comfortable, and has drawers to hide our learning tools. The lap boards help the children balance their work comfortably, and they are able to work more neatly.
When the children saw it put together after recess, they were so excited and couldn't wait to use the bench and lapboards. Thank you for making our classroom environment even more special.”

Learning Through Music
Funded Nov 7, 2018My third graders experienced so much joy the other day as we played "Are You Sleeping" as a class. You should have seen the excitement on their faces as they opened up the box after it was delivered. These kids are amazingly quick at picking up new skills. They have already learned how to hold the instruments, strum in different ways, and play with one note. You have made a difference in a child's life. We look forward to learning more notes and our next goal for a song is "Happy Birthday" to celebrate a classmate. We also want to challenge ourselves with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". In the future, some of my students would like to write their own songs as well. Thank you for your support.”
