"Remembering the Classics" is our in-depth study of classic literature and the creative art activities students do inspired by their readings. My goal is for students to make lasting connections with classic literature, and certainly they do this when materials are available for them to exhibit their creative art work inspired by the classics. My students aspire to design a float for the county fair parade promoting study of the classics, thus sharing their artistic creations with the entire community! They have chosen the beloved noveL, "Charlotte's Web" as their float theme - exhibiting Charlotte's web and Wilbur, the pig, on his way to the county fair. Also, for the county fair, my students want to design literacy themed art exhibits based on their favorite classics. Students will be on-hand during the fair to answer questions from visitors about medium, technique, texture, style ... in their literacy themed art exhibits and "Charlotte's Web" parade float. Items requested will be used by students throughout the project. Students will be introduced to the use of vinyl and a silhouette cameo to enhance their creativity. This is a new creative way to design and cut lettering and icons for their float and art exhibits. Students will use the color printer /ink to print the informational part of each exhibit and brochures they design to hand out to community members informing them of the exhibition. Students will use the newest technology available to enhance creativity designs. They will complete artwork to be exhibited in which they will be using the paint requested along with other materials they already have access to. First and foremost, the goal of the project is to emphasize the students' creativity. The use of technology, the importance of classic literature, and promoting arts within the community are objectives as well.
