We are in the beginning stages of a new gifted program at a Title 1 school with limited resources and money. Our students will benefit from flexible seating, technology, and materials to enhance their strengths in their areas of giftedness. With the flexible seating, our students will have a choice of seating preferences that will be conducive to their attention and engagement. The tables will allow for more space when participating on projects and help with fluid movement throughout activities. With the help of a doc cam, I will be able to project to the whole class for specific instruction. In order to best meet the needs of these gifted students, a "calming spot" in our classroom with the carpet that designates the spot, will help with any emotional needs that they might have and assist them in self-reflection. We teach all grades K-8th and the majority of the families of these children are unable to contribute due to economic hardships. We feel it would be beyond supportive and developmentally appropriate to meet the needs of these highly gifted students in various aspects of their talents through the addition of resources and materials. We strive to ensure the safety and growth of our students so that they become productive and successful individuals who will eventually contribute to our community in a positive way. We really want to give them the best opportunity to succeed with what we can provide for them when they are here in our gifted program!
