With bigger class sizes, the classroom can be noisy and hard for students to focus- during independent work time, group instruction or whole class instructional time. Because of this, there are a couple of resources that would really make a huge difference!
- Privacy Folders: My students are very hard working and want to do their best to succeed. They are motivated, but often because of the noise, and the amount of bodies in the classroom, students have a hard time staying focused on their tests. They tend to get distracted, and this makes them frustrated. If we had good quality privacy folders, it would allow students to focus on what is on their desk, and not be able to easily see others. This will keep them more focused, as well as helping students to keep their eyes on their own tests. My current privacy folders are several years old. They have writing on them from past students and holes poked through them with pencils. This is distracting to many. New privacy folders would be so helpful!
- Whisper Phones: I have a couple of these in my class, but so many other students would like to use them if we had more! These allow students to read to themselves without distracting others. I have students use these when reading tests, practicing their fluency, or when they are reading for fun. They are able to hear their mistakes while improving their oral fluency!
- Highlighter Rulers: I have one of these and have seen great success from my struggling readers who use this tool to read. It helps students to follow along on the page and make sure they don't skip words or lines, and the color is so fun for them! It gets them excited to read!
