  • Creativity at a Distance

    Funded May 6, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity. The art supplies I was able to purchase with your greatly appreciated donation were a welcome relief to the hard work students have been putting into their academic subjects. With the drawing pad and drawing and creating tools that I was able to provide, students were able to use art as a release and a way to express themselves in positive ways.

Students were able to create amazing art pieces that they could all be proud of while trying out new media and techniques with their new supplies.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sonia M. Lopez

This classroom project was brought to life by SONIC Drive-In and one other donor.
  • Welcome To The Jungle

    Funded Mar 9, 2020

I cannot express our thanks and appreciation enough for your donation to buy the sound equipment we so desperately needed to have our students be heard during their performances of The Jungle Book Kids. The addition of the new equipment allowed their talent to shine.

It is very difficult to get programs going in our schools because of the limited funding that we receive, especially when it comes to the arts. With your help, we are slowly building our musical theater program and the new sound equipment will become an integral part of that process.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sonia M. Lopez

This classroom project was brought to life by Disney Musicals in Schools and 11 other donors.
  • Smile! You're in the Yearbook!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Working on the yearbook project, my students had an opportunity to take on a leadership role at school. The cameras we purchased with donations became a tool and a way to give them a voice in our school community. It's hard to believe how something so simple has boosted their self-esteem!

My students learned new skills and can now see the world from different perspectives as a result of helping to create and publish the school yearbook. A few have become so skilled that I'm sure that they are confident enough to take on more challenges.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sonia M. Lopez

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 2 other donors.
  • Arabian Nights in East Los Angeles

    Funded Feb 19, 2019

I cannot express our thanks and appreciation enough for your donation. We are slowly building our musical theater program and the sound equipment we were able to buy was a great addition. We desperately needed to have our students be heard during their performances. Their performance of Aladdin was greatly enhanced, and their talent was able to shine.

As funding is limited, especially when it comes to the arts, any help we receive is appreciated by all involved. Disney Musicals in Schools and Center Theatre Group have helped us get a great start in creating our musical theater program, and this new equipment will become an integral part.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sonia M. Lopez

  • Disney Comes to East Los Angeles

    Funded Feb 11, 2019

I cannot express our thanks and appreciation enough for your donation to buy the wireless microphones we so desperately needed to have our students be heard during their performances of Aladdin Kids. The addition of the microphones allowed their talent to shine.

It is very difficult to get programs going in our schools because of the limited funding that we receive, especially when it comes to the arts. With your help, we are slowly building our musical theater program and these microphones will become an integral part of that process.”

My kids are at a real disadvantage when it comes to having the resources they need. I teach at a school in East Los Angeles, where most of the students come from low-income homes. At least half of my students have siblings and only one parent to rely on for their basic needs. Everybody tries their best with what they have which makes me feel proud to have them in class. My kids always do the best with what they have. This only makes me even more proud of them. They are amazing!
