Clean Space for Great Brains
Funded Sep 29, 2021I am beyond grateful for the part that you played in securing these items for my students. My heart lifts whenever I see people united for a great cause. Now my students have the opportunity to see and feel a truth that they were taught - the instinct of “love”.
We are all truly in this “together””
With gratitude,

As a new high school teacher, I thought that I would have time to do everything during my planning. But as I began to grade the work of my students - which were mostly research papers - I realized that in order to truly coach my students effectively, I needed to grade over the weekend and at nights. The issue was, my MacBook Pro crashed and was no longer in warranty. It became extremely difficult to go to the library after school and take care of my child at the same time. I began to stay at work an hour later just to satisfy some of my gradings.
I was thankful that a colleague of mine introduced me to Donors Choose and even more so when I was told that Google donated the laptop to my school for my use. But, as fate would have the most amazing thing occurred. My principal arranged for me to bring home one of the school laptops, that I honestly thought were only for the children. During that week, your gift came and I saw this as a double blessing. One I knew had to be used with true honor, grace, and worthiness. I told my principal that I still wanted to use the school's hp laptop, but the one that was donated by Google, I felt needed to still have an impact. I reflected on Google's Foundation whose mandate it is to help "marginalized and vulnerable populations in their own communities". It didn't take my principal to come up with the name of that one student who, not only excelled academically but did so with a fierce determination not to allow autism to hinder him from following his passion for medical sciences.
One would normally believe that a gift such as a MacBook should be given to the student that had the highest GPA and was a part of every single club imaginable. What this student was able to accomplish - holding a steady 3.5 GPA, getting into a prestigious university in Florida, getting through his exams and classwork while refusing his federally granted accommodations - were truly mountainous accomplishments. All this on the background of having to learn to navigate himself and others in all social settings.
I do hope that the change of use does not pose a problem. This student is still one of my Legal Eagles and now I can stand by as watch him truly soar by beating all the odds.”
With gratitude,
Dr. Harriott
