With flexible seating, my students can work comfortably around the room wherever they choose. They can be creative and not get distracted from sitting at a stiff desk inches away from another student. In the writer's workshop classroom, my students can work on their projects of choice and create original books. The stapler will turn their card stock, paper, and ideas into authentic publications. The microphone will enable them to take center stage and share their stories. These tools will help foster a middle school community of writers who stay engaged with writing and grow confident in sharing their ideas. At the delicate age where students can easily stifle their feelings and words, my students can emerge from my class proud and inspired to use their voices to make a change in the world. With the success of our recent book project where they donated their original books, these supplies will keep their love as authors and illustrators alive and foster a strong community of literacy.
