With the drum pads, our students can quickly transition from hand drums to drumsticks by placing the pad on the hand-drum surface. The performance will involve two assemblies, featuring intermediate students on drum pads, inviting our community to attend, exposing them to what our students are doing to further the arts. Our students will perform with high school mentors and with students from our sister magnet school, as well as a program at a community bookstore. Elementary students will accompany the high school drumline, utilizing the requested drum pads, increasing engagement of students on varied drum surfaces. By teaming with aforementioned ensembles, students work side by side with musician peers and teen models.. Intermediates will plant the seed of interest for primary levels through their performance. Exposing our community to our musical offerings, our December bookstore music program serves as a key community relations venue to those who don’t normally walk the halls of our public schools. To meet the needs of our grade school kinesthetic learners, the requested drum pads will provide the unprecedented opportunity to rhythmically express themselves with outside groups that share in their love for music. Our students are mesmerized by the high school drumline. Drumming captures children’s imagination and frees them to the music they have bottled up inside. Intermediate grades, who are more challenging to engage, benefit from workshopping with the drumline’s director. Your donation impacts the drumline’s 25-30 members and the entire population of both elementaries of over 1000 students. This project caters to our students’ love of rhythm and movement, motivating to reach high achievement of music national standards. The requested drum pads will provide for unique hands-on activities in the curriculum.
