The most memorable school experiences often take place outside of school! I teach our students about the unique plants and animals that live here in Hawaii, our planet's most remote landmass, because these species will need humans to protect them, or they will vanish. Ocean pollution and ocean health is near and dear to our hearts here in Hawaii, and one of the most inspiring symbols of the ocean is the dolphin, or naia in Hawaiian. We will cover our science standards by learning about the internal and external structures in a dolphin that function to support survival, growth, behavior and reproduction. Then, this learning will become a memory to last a lifetime when the students are allowed to get into the water and interact with the dolphins! The program is offered by Dolphin Quest so they have established safety practices and a targeted lesson for my students.
