Ms. Pabarcus' Washington DC Adventure!
Funded Nov 28, 2018Your generosity enabled us to have the most inspiring, incredible trip to Washington DC! It was the first time for several of the students to have left the state, and many of them had their first ever plane trip! The trip was so much fun for everyone, and amazingly, there were no problems the entire time. Flights were smooth, students were timely, and adventures were perfect.
The kids were impressed with everything they saw, and the days were packed with new things to see and do - from 8:00 am until around 10:00 pm each day! Favorites were the African-American museum, the National Air and Space Museum, and the nighttime Ghost Tour in Alexandria. The Holocaust museum also made a lasting impression. We made a special side-trip to the National Portrait Gallery, and the students were thrilled to see the new portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama.
Since we've been back, the students are making connections all over the place. We are studying WWII and the Cold War in AP U.S. History, and the students keep excitedly noticing topics that we're talking about that relate directly to things they saw - Iwo Jima reminds them of the Iwo Jima Memorial, the Holocaust has become very real to them, and there was evidence of the Cold War from Arlington to the Smithsonian American History Museum!
Thank you so much for helping to make this trip possible. We could not have done it without the support of people who value lifelong learning, the importance of travel, and the benefits of experiences in the world - people like you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pabarcus
