  • Let Them Play and They Will Learn

    Thank you so much for these materials for our classroom. You cannot imagine the wide faces of each of the students when they saw what came for them. They were literally out of their seat from excitement. The games, legos, play-doh, and puzzles were such a great way for them to have fun, but still be able to learn. They don't know that when they're puzzling and working to put together a puzzle that they are collaborating and critically thinking and making patterns (looking at the colors, which color matches with other colors). They don't know that when they're using legos to create something out of nothing that they are critically thinking. They don't know what when they are explaining their creations to me or their peers that they are using communication skills.”

  • Crawling, Walking, Flying Through Books

    You will not believe how excited my students were with they received the new books. It was like a surprise everyday as a new package arrived to our classroom. I had to buy a whole new bins to fit all of the books into our classroom library. My students who were reading below 1st grade level were especially happy to notice that their collection of five books has increased to 20+ books. This is so great for them since finding books at their reading level is so difficult. The piggie and gerald books are a favorite for all of them. With these new books, they were able to easily achieve their reading goals because the books were so readily available.”

My second grade classroom is made up of a variety of readers. Some are crawling along, still having difficulty sounding out the alphabets. Some are walking along, steadily reading at grade level. And some are soaring, flying above second grade. I want to ensure that ALL my students have the books that meet their needs and challenges their strengths. These books will encourage some readers as they begin to decode one syllable words and take the first step into reading, while some will be challenge others as they begin to stretch their skills to read beyond their grade level expectations. The books in this cart contain books that are decodable CVC words, such as "mat" and "splat." It also contains books that are at the instructional level of my students, who are progressing well into second others. Finally, it contains books that are beginning chapter books for those who need to challenged and stretch. Every students needs a "just right" book to hold their interest and make great readers.
