Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to explore STEM with the Edison Robots. Many of the students were enthused with the activities and desired to use the robots daily. They have become more engaged and many said that this was something they would like to do in high school.
Furthermore, many of the teachers that witnessed the interactions stated that they enjoyed seeing the kids collaborate and work together on various activities. Also, some of the students that walked by, wanted to participate as well. It was a great experience for the whole school!”
These devices helped my students expand their understanding of robotics and coding. They were able to understand and make the connections on how coding works and can be used to create and manage physical objects. For many of my students, they appreciated the hands on learning experience as well as the immediate results form their coding. Moreover, the activities were functional in promoting collaboration and critical thinking skills. The experience was just what I wanted for my students to have, as they continue to see how the world around them works!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Carpenter
This classroom project was brought to life by General Motors & Young Sheldon on CBS and 3 other donors.
We are requesting classroom kits of Micro.bit and Sphero Ball to help expand their technology experience. These materials will afford my students the opportunity to expand beyond the keyboard and make their coding more applicable. Applied knowledge can greatly increase students' level of awareness and appreciation for how their world works, while broadening career outlook.
Technology also helps students be more responsible. Owning your own device or borrowing the school's devices gives students the opportunity to improve their decision making skills as well as taking ownership of a valuable (and often times expensive) device.
These devices will also help my students understand how to work better together as they will be paired with partners in order to complete the assignments. From learning how to code to learning how to better collaborate across teams and with their instructors--technology empowers students to be more creative and be more connected.
