  • Math Manipulatives

    Funded Sep 1, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my project. I'm so excited to give these tools to my students to help them learn and practice their math skills. From counting with 1:1 correspondence to adding two numbers to measuring objects, these tools will be used daily! Thanks so much!”

  • Sound Check!

    Funded Aug 28, 2023

Thank you so much or donating to my project. Because of your generosity, my students will be able to effectively use computers to help with their learning. Quality, comfortable headphones will help them focus and clearly hear sounds to read and write on the computer. They will be excited for colorful headphone options that do not hurt their ears. Thank you again for supporting my first graders!”

  • Seeking Sensory Tools

    Funded Jul 17, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation. You are bringing self-regulation tools and sensory items to my first grade students. They will love the tools and be able to pick out the right ones for them to use to enter a calmer mind and body that is ready for learning. Thank you so much!”

  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

    Funded Sep 14, 2022

Thank you so much for donating these books geared toward social-emotional learning. We have been using them for independent reading time, and as read alouds during our SEL (social-emotional learning) block. The students thoroughly enjoy getting to explore them on their own and then diving deeper into their understanding during the read alouds.

These books have inspired countless discussions amongst these first graders. We can already see a lot of growth in our students in their interactions with their peers, families, and adults within the building.

We are so excited to see the continued impact of these books throughout the rest of the year and as these students grow throughout their time at our school.”

  • Supplied for Success

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Your generous donations have enabled our students to gain independence and to be accountable for their learning.

Students have gotten into a great routine of putting their unfinished classwork into their "ketchup" folders. They have learned to go back and make sure that they complete this work whenever they have free time. They know exactly which problems or questions are needed to be completed for an assignment to be considered "finished" because the highlight the problems or questions needed to be answered.

Scissors, whiteboard erasers and other materials received in this project have made life with first graders a little easier and smooth. Our students are learning to be fabulous, responsible individuals.

Thank you so much for helping my class gain these materials!”

  • 21st Century Learners

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Words cannot begin to describe the impact these computers have has on both my students' academic progress and the class morale, particularly in writing class.

Using the computers has become an exciting part of the writing process for my students. As many of them struggle with writing down basic ideas in complete sentences, it has opened up a new door for them. In the past, when my students have made revisions and added details to make their arguments stronger, they have had to rewrite large chunks of their writings. This is frustrating for most students and when you add in their struggles with visual-motor integration, it can become a challenge that my students dread taking on. My students begin their writing assignments by first planning, then writing a rough draft. Once their drafts are complete, my students type the drafts and print them out. This enables them to then use their editing checklists to mark up their drafts, add details, and even rearrange their sentences so their responses make better sense without feeling like they have the re-write their entire response. The editing process has become quicker and easier for them and my students are producing higher quality work as a result.

In addition to writing, my students have also been using the computers to work on their reading skills. They are able to access programs to help improve their fluency and their sight word recognition. Each of my students has increased their reading rate by at least 7 words per minute and have improved their sight word recognition by at least 1.5 times in the past few months.

As the school year continues, I am sure my students will continue to benefit from and enjoy using the computers. Thank you again so much for all of your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hutchison

  • Wanted: Supplies and Manipulatives!

    Funded Aug 17, 2020

My students have been so excited to use the materials this projected has funded. Although the school year looks different than how we initially imagined, your generosity has enabled me to send enough of these materials home for my remote students to model and visualize their problems right in their own homes.

My second graders were so excited to receive the tens frames boards. They are magnetic and come with magnetic counters, so they could easily show me their work via Zoom. They love being able to hold up the paddle. My students have used the tens frames to solidify their understanding of how to make a ten, paving way to learn how to solve for ten more, ten less, one more and one less of a given number. They are now using that knowledge to solve multi-digit addition problems using the place value chart.

My second graders are also benefitting from being able to visualize how ten ones equals one ten, an important concept necessary to understand regrouping. Although my original plan was to send home a base ten set to each of my students, they are grasping the concepts through my modeling using the magnetic base ten set I received. I am able to move the ones cubes into a straight line of ten, and then cover it with a tens stick, demonstrating how they are the same. This has enabled my students to begin to add two digit numbers to single digit numbers that require regrouping (ex 25+ 6=31). The ability to visualize these concepts are necessary for my students and they are excited to be able to see it in action. They are now using the white boards to draw place value charts and solve these addition problems. As they master the two digit and one digit addition problems, they will move on to two digit and two digit addition and three digit addition problems.

My third graders were just as excited to get different colored counters(color chips)! They are using these counters to model arrays for multiplication and division problems as well as solve division problems by splitting them into equal groups. My students have particularly benefitted from the different colors to model the distributive property of multiplication, allowing them to use known facts to solve larger, more complex facts (think 7x3=(5x3)+(2x3)). Next, they are going to be using these skills to solve multiplication problems involving factors of 6, 7, 8, and 9, as well as area problems. They will also be using the fraction bars to understand equivalent fractions in their next unit!

My students have been so thankful and excited to use their materials to learn new math concepts. I have seen so much growth from each of my students already this year. Thank you so much again, for all of your generosity in donating to this project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hutchison

My students all receive special education services in math. They benefit from using manipulatives to visualize and understand complex mathematical concepts. Students will be using these materials at home and at school. Each student will have their own manipulatives to use to gain mathematical knowledge and confidence. Students will use the magnetic ten frames to make a 10. They will be able to hold their boards up for me to check for understanding either through the computer or from a distance within the classroom. Base 10 blocks will help facilitate an understanding of place value that will help students to add and subtract multi-digit numbers with and without regrouping. Students will use the counters to build arrays and equal groups, learning the basics of multiplication and division. Rulers will allow students to be able to practice measuring common objects within their homes or school.
