That's My Culture
Funded Feb 15, 2024Students of all cultures in our school have been reading the books we got about Native Americans. The students are sharing the information with other students and everyone is learning so much about our indigenous culture.
The books ranged in reading levels from 1st - 5th grade. Even my older students are enjoying the information from the lower level reading books. The older students are proud to see characters like them in a book.
Thank you for helping us learn more about the different tribes in our area.”

Funded Aug 13, 2023Our students were so excited to see the new books. There are waiting list to read them. Thank you for helping out our students after such a blow to our community. They are actively reading these books and happy to learn more.
The Magic Treehouse with the fact books have been a big hit. They are sharing the facts with each other, then reading the fiction books and comparing the information with the made up story. They are also using these new facts to teach other students about topics they are interested in. We did a project on spiders and many students were talking about the information they got from these books.
Thank you for caring for our students with your generous donation.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The State of Oklahoma.Bring Our Stories to Life With Art
Funded Feb 8, 2022We are working on recalling information from stories and describing what happens in the book. Also, we are writing reviews about books to try to get other students to read them. Illustrations with the reviews help sell the book. Some students are uncomfortable with drawing but want to include a picture. The students were able to use the books to practice drawing a comic book page to help illustrate their review. They really enjoyed the drawing books after we were done with the assignment. And the great thing about these books is, I am using them again this year to help with a new set of students.
Thank you for your help and generosity.”

Funded Apr 23, 2022This project was to help replace books that are missing in a series. Some series were missing like the second or third book. Some were incomplete and were missing the last book. Also, books get lost, and then parts of the story are missing. Students start reading a series and then they cannot finish because a book is missing. This can be frustrating.
I cannot explain the excitement that happened when we got these books. Students were anxious to get to read the complete series without any books missing. They could also continue reading a series they started but couldn't finish because they didn't have the next book.
Thank you for your help in making some of our series complete.”

Mrs. Rich
What Does That Mean?
Funded Oct 22, 2021Thank you for your generous donation to our school. The dictionaries are being used to help with skills that are on our state test. The students have looked up meanings of words that they do not fully understand. They have also been able to learn about guide words and how that helps with finding the word on which page. The dictionaries also contain synonyms, antonyms and other words that enable the students to comprehend the word better.
After learning the different skills the students did a 'relay race' in which each team had certain tasks to complete. It got them moving, learning, and using the skills in a fun way.
These dictionaries and skills also helped students to read and understand their books better. They now feel confident in looking up words they do not understand while reading. This enabled them to comprehend their stories better.
Thank you for all your help in reviving the use of a dictionary in our class.”

Funded Jul 8, 2021This has been a very exciting project. In the two weeks since receiving the Magic Tree House fact books that go with our fiction Magic Tree House books, all books have been checked out a total of 28 times. The students are so interested in learning more about the stories they are reading.
We are also doing some fabulous projects with these books. Some activities have been comparing and contrast the true books with the made-up stories so that they can understand how facts can be used to create a fiction book.”

Read Me a Story
Funded Nov 9, 2020I cannot describe how excited my students get when I have read them one of the stories your donation bought. They wanted to reread the story after on their own also. They are anticipating each book that I read to them. With each book, we do an activity to think about the book and they are enthusiastic to complete each task so we can move on to the next book.
One of the books was about snowglobes then we had the big snowstorm. The students were eager to return to school and describe how their break was like the book.
Thank you for your generous donation to our read-aloud books.”

Non Fiction ... For Real
Funded Oct 19, 2020Your donation opened a whole new section in our library, non-fiction. Non-fiction books are so hard to keep up with. Things are changing constantly and students need and want that new information. We now have books about animals, the internet, coding and even gaming. The students are excited to go to the non-fiction section and check out what is new. They are checking out the books continuously. Thank you for your help in keeping our non-fiction section updated and active. Your donation is appreciated by all the students in our school.”

Funded Aug 3, 2020I cannot explain the excitement that the students had when I showed them the books that arrived. Many had read the previous books in the series and were anxiously awaiting for us to get the next book.
Recently the movie came out for the book, The One and Only Ivan. Thanks to your generous donation we were able to get the second book, The One and Only Bob. I currently have 5 holds on the book. They are loving that they are able to read it and finish out the story.
It is so great that the students are able to read the next book in all these wonderful series. Thank you for letting me keep the students interested in reading these books.”

Books for All Learners
Funded Jan 1, 2020Many of our students are reading at a level below their grade level. With your donation, I was able to give these students books at their level. These books helped these students read books on their level and at an interest level they could enjoy.
Fourth, fifth and sixth graders that read at a second or third-grade level still want to read books on topics that would interest an older child. These books were the perfect fit.
During silent reading time they can sit and read a book without getting frustrated and confused. They are even sharing the books with other students. Everyone in the classes are enjoying them and find them interesting.
Thank you so much for helping our readers!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rich
