I am so appreciative of your generosity. I cannot wait to set up my office for the upcoming school year. I will be sure to send you pictures of my cozy counselor's office with all my resources.

  • Screen Free Family Fun

    Funded Feb 6, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations for my project "Screen Free Family Fun". We had an excellent turn out from our families for the parent program. They learned a lot from our guest speaker and shared their plans to make immediate changes at home with their use of screen time.

Each family left with a board game, thanks to your donations! They were very excited to leave with a tangible, screen free activity to start this new journey in their homes.

Since the program, I have spoken with several parents who have said they have implemented what they learned at the workshop in their homes. As a result, they have seen positive changes with their children in terms of self regulation and behavior.

Thank you again for making a positive impact on the families at my school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cortell

  • Little Kids, Big Feelings

    Funded Feb 17, 2021

Thank you so much for your support for my project "Little Kids, Big Feelings". This school year has been full of many challenges for our students. They have had to deal with many new stressors and being able to support their Social Emotional Learning with my classroom lessons has been very valuable.

They have worked on skills such as identifying big feelings, safe coping strategies and self regulation. We have also done a great deal of work in the areas of celebrating our differences, speaking up for others, and recognizing that we are all special and unique just the way we are.

I have loaned books out from my SEL library to families. Parents have utilized specific books to support their own children at home. I truly believe in early intervention and I wanted to let you know that your contribution supported students as young as age 5. Thank you again for making a positive difference for children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cortell

  • All Are Welcome All Are Supported

    Funded Oct 23, 2018

Thank you so much for your generosity for this project. The books have been amazing in teaching young children about diversity, acceptance and being confident in who they are. These books have introduced or enhanced student understanding of these concepts in a developmentally appropriate manner.

The books have encouraged students to ask thought provoking questions about how to support differences, play with kids who may be different from themselves and to be kind. To set a foundation for caring about others at a young age is a very important concept and lesson.

I have read the books in whole classroom lessons, small groups and individually. I have the books in my office and students will notice them and ask to read them. I feel fortunate to have these resources to use year after year for students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cortell

These amazing books, such as "All Are Welcome," will support our students in continuing to learn about one another. We will learn how our differences are an asset, and learn empathy and support at a young age. We will also set the foundation for standing up for others and realize the common threads throughout all of us. My hope is to give our students exposure and more opportunities to learn about different types of families, advocacy and more. I also hope that students can learn from these books and start a dialogue at home with their caregivers. Thank you for your support!
