  • Building Vocabulary One Day at a Time!

    Funded Nov 19, 2023

My students love the story props and mini toys to help with their learning! For each story kit, we have acted out the story to improve comprehension, as well as use the pieces to help retell what happens in order. So far, our favorite has been using the Little Blue Truck because the students like to act out getting stuck in the mud! For the vocabulary games, each student enjoys getting a handful of mini toys and then taking turns to sort them by the correct category, size, etc. The hands-on component of the vocabulary games increases engagement as well as offering real life situations to discuss (e.g. If your mom asks you to bring her all your clothes, what are you going to bring over to her?). The students are so happy to have these materials! Thank you for your contribution to my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooper

  • Phonological Awareness for All!

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you for allowing this wonderful curriculum to be put to good use with my students! I'm currently using this curriculum virtually and it is perfect. My students understand the routine and they participate easily because it is a quick part of our session! We love to play our "word games" and I'm noticing that it is helping students with articulation difficulties say their sounds correctly. Having the students concentrate on sounds and where in the word the sound is located (initial or final position), assists students with their speech production. These materials are being used in individual sessions as well as whole class lessons. This allows both special education and general education students benefit from phonological awareness intervention! Thank you again to everyone who generously donated, it was extremely appreciated by myself, my students, and my school community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooper

  • Expanding Our Expression!

    Funded Dec 29, 2019

Thank you for your contribution to our classroom. We used the expanding expression tool (EET) for about 3 weeks before our state closed schools due to COVID-19. In that time, my students were demonstrating improved ability to describe common objects, such as cars, ice cream, and a football. Although these may be simple items, actually being able to include more than 2-3 details is a very hard task for those with language impairments or lack of exposure. We have used this tool to build our vocabulary, assist with creating grammatical sentences, and learned to work together to try to "win" a describing game against Mrs.Cooper. My 4th grade male students were all asking to use the mini EET while I held the teacher version. This tool will continue to be used when we are back in school and learning together. We love it and are so thankful for all the donations that came our way.

Thank you from my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooper

  • Play, Talk, and Develop Social Skills!

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

The students and staff at Belmont cannot thank you enough! The playground equipment has made such a difference in our Fun Friday's and recess activities. The students love using the goals to play soccer, throw the football around with school staff, and use the sidewalk chalk to draw pictures. As you can see from one of the pictures, we used the equipment as an incentive for students to help put together and they were able to take ownership of it. They make sure to bring the materials back inside once they are done playing and are always talking about how they want to go outside more. This never happened in the past because there wasn't really anything to do! The students have become leaders on and off the field. Our staff enjoy going outside with their students and play games or have relay races. We even used the equipment to make an obstacle course one day that the entire school was able to use! Your donation has meant the world to our school and we will continue to play with the balls, cones, goals, and sidewalk chalk for years to come.

    Thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooper

  • Keep Me Moving and Focused!

    Funded Aug 11, 2019

My students love the new materials to help them focus on their work! My students ask to use "the boogie board" to wake up their core muscles and get moving. Did you know that using our whole body helps with saying speech sounds?! Using this board gets them ready to learn and also a break from sitting in our chair all day. They love it and make sure that I remember to use it each time we meet! As for the lap pads, the students who use these are busy bees and need the extra weight to focus them. The material is very soft and my students love to have them on their lap. It keeps them in their chair and working. Last but not least, the quiet game of matching. This game has come in handy more than once and is used as a break activity. Usually we pair the boogie board and matching game for some quiet time when the class gets loud. My students are very thankful for these materials and look forward to using them every day!

Thank you from Belmont Elementary School!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cooper

These items will help my students concentrate during lessons, focus while they are working, allow them to move their body after sitting, and give them an opportunity to calm down during moments of sensory dysregulation. Each item has special use during class time and are excellent sources of comfort for the students. We use a lap pad when we have difficulty remaining in our seat, while the shape sorter is easy enough to help students refocus when they need a break. The balance board is two fold; it can help us quickly move our bodies when we have to sit for extended periods of time and for some students, it helps to engage their core muscles while will help with speech!
