  • Let's Expand Our Classroom Library!

    Thank you so much for your support! Your help has allowed my early readers the opportunity to have access to a wide variety of books to read independently. A big struggle of teaching children to read is maintaining interest. How to get a student to come to love reading? A big part of that is giving them access to a wide variety of books so they can have a chance to discover books about topics they love. Many times, our earliest readers don't have as many choices to choose from as other developing readers. Your donations have helped re-ignite my students' interest in reading on their own!

    Every day we set aside time for students to be able to read independently. Students are able to go to the library and browse and choose books based on their own interests. Before your donations, the pickings were quite slim and the students were becoming bored reading the same books over and over. Now, library time has become revitalized! I wish I could show you the smiles on their faces as students come show me the books they selected for themselves. I, and my students, are forever grateful.”

  • Readers Are Leaders: Help Close the Gaps

    Thank you again for your generosity! The children were ecstatic about their new resources. I was able to set up new learning centers for them and the materials gave me the flexibility to meet individual students' learning needs. Alphabet knowledge and basic phonetic skills are such a fundamental part of learning to read, and having hands-on manipulatives really helps to drive things home for the children.

    To give an example of how we have been using our resources in the classroom, every morning I spend time with the children doing our phonics block. During this lesson, we learn new, specific phonic skills and sounds used in the English language. I have several English Language Learners and students with learning disabilities who really benefitted from having the letter tiles in front of them to support them as we practiced our phonics skills. As things become more complex, I will be able to adapt these same materials for use in both my 1st and 2nd grade classes.

    Again, I just want to thank everyone for their donations and support. Our class was truly blessed.”

The materials in the Lakeshore PK Writing Bundle will help my students develop their foundational writing skills. At the moment, I am limited in the variety and type of materials I can provide to my students to meet their different needs. The writing center will give them a specific area to work on their writing skills, and the light table and writing boards will be able to provide them different sensory experiences than just using paper. Developing writing skills is one of the fundamental parts of Pre-Kindergarten, so I would like to be able to provide a strong of a foundation as possible for my students. I believe that these materials will be an excellent support for these developing writers.

About my class
