  • Come in and Stay Awhile

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The students love coming into my room and sitting on the comfy chair while they hug the pillows. They love the soft lighting now instead of the harsh florescent lights. No matter how many times they come in they still love seeing the pom poms hanging from the ceiling. I have gotten many compliments from teachers even on how cozy my room looks.

I wish I recorded their faces when they walked in for the fist time. They had huge smiles and were so excited to look and touch everything new. They loved how colorful it is. I unfortunately cannot use the table cloth right now, as I have plexi glass up on my table. But cannot wait until it is safe for it to come down. I know they will be excited for it.

Again, thank you so much for your generosity, it warms my heart to know that people out their care and love about our kids just as much as I do.”

    Ms. Johnson

  • Focus, Focus, Focus

    Funded May 27, 2021

Thank you for my fidget items, the students love them! A few were used on the very first day of school. I had one first grader that suffers from anxiety and was having seperation anxiety from leaving mom. I let her pick out one of the squishy unicorns. Being able to focus on the unicorn allowed her to stop crying and be able to attend her class. she brings it everyday she enters school to help with those feelings. We have noticed a big change.

Another 5th grade student was new to our school. She was worried about going down to class. I also allowed her to pick one and she choose a unicorn as well. She was able to focus on the unicorn and enter class. Even though she was worried about everyone looking at her. She uses it in class as well, it gives her hands something to do, so she can focus her attention on the teacher.

The students get so excited when I allow them to pick out their own fidget toy. They have a sense of ownership over it, which really helps them treat it with responsibility.”

  • Shred Your Life Away

    Funded Jul 12, 2021

Thank you for the paper shredder, it has been a major help in organizing and making room in my small office. I was able to shred many documents that then made room in my file cabinet. I plan to use the extra room for files on my groups that will hold information for each student; such as self assessments and the work that they complete. I am excited for this new idea as it will help with data for my groups. This data will help show the hard work that I do every year and the difference that it makes.

Students could unfortunately not help me shred the paper, as they are confidential documents, but they are interested in it and ask me about it. I did have one really curious student, so she helped me shred a document that was not confidential. She was so excited on how it worked and fascinated how it turned it into little bits of paper. She also wanted to help dump it into the garbage.

Again, thank you so much. I know a simple paper shredder may not seem like a lot, but it has made a major impact for me. Having a very small office, I do not have room for unnecessary documents, when the room can be used for more useful things.”

  • Therapeutic Interventions

    Funded Oct 29, 2015

Thank you so much for the games and books. The students have had a great time using them during our individual/ group setting and during classroom guidance. The books have helped during classroom guidance by explaining a lesson in more detail. It helps by giving examples and showing how it can impact the students. The games have helped during my individual sessions by helping the students to relax and have fun, which helps them open up. The games also help during my group sessions by helping the students to work on social skills; sharing, taking turns, winning and losing fairly, as well as cooperation. I have a students who is not being nice in class, so we read "do unto otters" together. I have two student who have a heard time conveying their feelings to others without being threatening; so we play imaginiff together. The game allows them to talk about their ideas and feelings in a safe place. During classroom guidance, we are talking about bullying, so during my lesson I read "Dare" to further stress my point. Again thank you so much for your help and donations. The kids love the items and I love how much it helps them.”

  • "Lights, Camera, Fundraise"

    Funded Dec 16, 2013

The students were so excited to have our very own popcorn machine. On the day of our popcorn fundraiser, every student who got off the bus were talking about it. They couldn't wait to get their popcorn. The money that we receive from the popcorn fundraiser will be spent on our end of the year celebration. We will be using the money to purchase a jump castle for the students. This project was double win for the students. Not only did they get to purchase popcorn and be excited about their special treat, they will also be getting a jump castle to celebrate the end of the year. The popcorn machine will help us to purchase more things in the future.

Thank you so much for your help,”

  • Backpacks

    Funded Sep 20, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The students were so excited to be able to pick out their own brand new back pack. They felt pride in the fact that they had something that was brand new and had a smile on their face the whole day. They even thanked me the following day for their back pack. This excitement was because of you and your generosity. The student that go to our school do not have much, they are used to hand me downs or carrying around a broken back pack, or having to go without one. You made this possible.

    Thank you so much”

  • Project Help Feed Our Children

    Funded May 29, 2013

My students were so excited to see the food they were taking home. As they took a bag, they said thank you and couldn't wait to see what was inside. They were all talking to each other and holding each item up excitedly. They know that they will at least have a little something over the weekend and will not have to worry. The students will be able to concentrate on learning instead of on their growling stomachs. Thank you so much for making this project possible. Without people like you, these students would not have gotten this opportunity.”

  • Leap Frog Tag Readers Inspires Reading

    Funded Dec 3, 2010

I want to thank you for your generosity. It is really nice to know that people who have never met my students want to help them learn. Leap Frog Tag will give my students the opportunity they need to increase their reading skills and have fun while doing so. Who said learning had to be boring. DonorsChoose is an amazing company, giving so many teachers the opportunity to help their students. I cannot express my gratitude enough. Anything I can do to help these students increase their reading ability and decrease their chances of disengagement, I will do. With your donations you have made that a possibility. Thank you.”

  • Expanding our minds and our skills

    Funded Oct 5, 2010

Thank you so much for helping to support our cause. The materials that you have helped me to get has made improving reading skills fun for my students. My goal is working on closing the gap in literacy at my school. Meaning, getting less students who score below their grade level in reading. I hope that by making learning fun, the students will focus less on the fact that it is a job and more on the fun aspect. We use the magnetic letters on baking sheets to form words. The students use the glue sticks to glue together matching rhyming words on bits of paper. The magnify glasses are used to search for words in a story. Then the books are used to practice reading. The students have enjoy the materials and thank you as well. You are a part of my mission in closing the gap. Thank you so much.”
